Physical education at Imara is not just about playing a sport or honing one’s skills in any one particular sport. It is not about competing and winning. It is about the several factors given above that contribute to the wellbeing of the body. It is about becoming aware of each of these factors and working on them to enable the body to function optimally in any given situation.
At Imara, Mental Education focuses on the qualities given above. Irrespective of the task the child is engaged in, what is given attention is how they might be performing the task. It is the process that takes precedence over the final product. The endeavour is to ensure that the process is informed by the qualities mentioned. If these are brought to bear on the work that is being undertaken, there is joy in the doing of the work, regardless of what the end product is.
Awareness of myriad emotions and educating oneself about how these can facilitate or impede one’s progress is a critical part of Emotional Education at Imara. The child is moved towards becoming more discerning about their emotional states and how these are affecting them – favourably or adversely in the course of their day’s activities. During their time at Imara, facilitators encourage the child to develop a range of healthy emotions such as those above, thereby empowering them to tackle challenges.
